Renault India has heaved a sigh of relief with the launch of the Kwid hatchback that instantly became successful for the French manufacturer. Previously, the Duster SUV was the bread and butter model for Renault, but with the arrival of the Kwid the sales chart of Renault has shown an upward trend.

A report from Gaadiwaadi.com indicates that the overwhelming response for the Kwid has resulted in the massive bookings that currently stands at over 50,000 units. The report indicates that many dealerships have stopped accepting orders for the base trim, RXE(O) mid-variant and top of the line RXT(O) variant. Meanwhile, the RXE now demands 5 to 6 months of delivery time, RXL 6 to 7 months and RXT 7 to 8 months.

Renault India currently manufactures 5000 to 6000 units of the Kwid in its manufacturing facility in Chennai. With the growing demand for the car, Renault will be forced to increase the production in the near future.

Launched on 24 September, the Kwid racked up 25,000 bookings in just two weeks. The waiting period also has gradually increased from the initial three months.

When launched, the Kwid made headlines for its price starting at Rs 2.56 lakh. Kwid features raised ground clearance of 180mm that also positions the car as pseudo-SUVish hatchback. The segment-leading features include Medianav system that has navigation Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free telephony, USB and aux–input ports and speed sensing volume control.

The other highlight of the car is a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl, which makes it the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country.

Kwid hatchback is powered by a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm mated a 5-speed manual gearbox.
