In a bizarre turn of events, a parrot was summoned to a police station by the police in Maharashtra for "hurling obscenities" at an 85-year old woman, who alleged that its owner had tutored the pet.

The woman, identified as Janabai Sakharkar, complained to the police in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district that her stepson had trained the family pet to scream out abuses at her, whenever she passes by the house, PTI reported.

The police, after failing to pacify the 85-year old, launched an investigation into the matter and promptly summoned her stepson--Suresh and his parrot, Hariyal to the police station, to investigate the allegations.

However, at the police station, the parrot  became "too conscious" and would not utter even a word when the cage was brought close to Janabai, the police said.

"We watched the parrot carefully but it did not utter a word at the police station after being confronted by the complainant," Police inspector PS Dongre told the local reporters.

The police said that after investigations they found that the family was involved in a long land dispute. However, as a precaution, the parrot was handed over to the forest department "taking into consideration the  harassed mental condition of the poor woman", the police said.
