CBS Films just dropped the trailer of The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra's upcoming film The Sense of an Ending.
Adapted from the Man Booker Prize-winning novel by Julian Barnes, The Sense of an Ending is the first English directorial venture of the Indian filmmaker Ritesh Batra.
The film follows Tony Webster, a reclusive old man as he dwells between his past and the present. He is forced to confront ghosts of his past when a mysterious letter arrives from the mother of one of his girlfriends of younger days.
Batra's last and debut directorial film The Lunchbox received good reviews from critics and garnered acclaim from the audience as well. Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur-starrer The Lunchbox was BAFTA nominated and won the Viewers' Choice Award at the 2014 Cannes Festival.
The Sense of an Ending features Jim Broadbent, Charlotte Rampling (Downton Abbey), Michelle Dockery, Harriet Walter, Emily Mortimer, Billy Howle, Joe Alwyn, Freya Mavor, and Matthew Goode. The film is co-financed by BBC Films and produced by Origin Pictures.
In a recent interview with Scroll, Batra said, "I'm a big Julian Barnes fan and had read the book when it was published in 2011; I had even considered working on an adaptation at the time, but I was under the impression that something was already in progress."
"Besides, I usually prefer to work with my own stories. Then, a couple of years later, the offer came to direct the film, along with a draft of a wonderful screenplay done by Nick Payne."
The film will be released in the U.S. and the UK on March 10 and March 24, respectively. Watch the trailer below.
