In a tragic incident, a young couple allegedly died by suicide after their families opposed their relationship, police officials said on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Karsh Bhagat (26), a resident of Bishnah, and Madhubala (25), a resident of Miran Sahib in Jammu district. According to police sources, the two were in a relationship and wanted to get married, but their families were reportedly against the alliance as they belong to different castes.

The couple allegedly jumped in front of the Archana Express, which runs between Jammu and Patna, near Bari Brahmana railway station on Sunday evening. Their bodies were later found near pillar number 91 in the Ratanu Chak area, about a kilometre from the station.

A suicide note was recovered from the spot, officials said, adding that preliminary investigations suggest the couple had tried to persuade their families but took the extreme step when they failed to secure consent.

On receiving information, a team of railway police reached the scene, conducted necessary formalities, and shifted the bodies to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.

In another incident, a 34-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging in the Bari Brahmana area.

The deceased, identified as Pammi Devi, wife of Govind Kumar and a native of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, was residing near Ward No. 12, Kathi Mod, close to Bari Brahmana railway station. Police said she was found hanging inside her residence around 11:30 am.

A police team from Bari Brahmana station reached the spot, took custody of the body, and initiated inquest proceedings.

Police said Kamal, who is survived by his wife and two children, had reportedly argued with his wife earlier in the day. A forensic team was called to collect evidence, and the body was shifted for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man from Satya village died under mysterious circumstances in Nashik, Maharashtra, where he had gone to work at a roadside eatery.

The deceased, Surinder Kumar, had reportedly been working in Maharashtra for the past two months. His family members alleged foul play, claiming he had informed them during his last phone conversation about a dispute with co-workers.

According to the family, they were later told that Surinder died of a heart attack around 2 am. They further alleged that his body was sent home after the post-mortem without properly informing them. The family has demanded a thorough investigation, alleging that both local police in Maharashtra and authorities concerned have not registered a formal complaint.

Police said further inquiries are being conducted into the matter.
