The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, J&K, has registered a criminal case against two individuals for allegedly manipulating the medical admission process by using fake and forged certificates to secure an MBBS seat at the prestigious Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar, under reserved categories—exposing serious loopholes and malpractice in professional admissions.
While one candidate allegedly obtained a fake Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate, another secured admission on the basis of a forged "Persons with Disability" (PWD) certificate.
Shockingly, police said the candidate who managed to obtain the PWD certificate is a healthy youth with no disability. However, with the alleged connivance of certain government officials, he succeeded in procuring the certificate, depriving genuinely deserving candidates of their rightful opportunity.
The EOW Kashmir of the Crime Branch, J&K, has registered a formal case against the two accused for their alleged involvement in securing admission to the MBBS Course–2023 at SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar, on the basis of fake and forged documents.

A spokesperson of the Crime Branch Kashmir said the case is based on information received from a credible source, which alleged that a resident of Ajas, Bandipora, secured admission to the MBBS programme by producing forged "Persons with Disability" (PWD) and "Economically Weaker Section" (EWS) certificates, despite not being physically or mentally disabled.
Acting on this information, the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, initiated a preliminary verification into the matter.
During the course of verification, it emerged that the accused beneficiary, in connivance with another individual, a resident of Asham, Sumbal, Bandipora, procured a fake and forged PWD certificate. On the strength of this forged document, the beneficiary allegedly secured selection for admission to the MBBS course at SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar.
"The acts committed by the accused persons prima facie disclose the commission of cognisable offences punishable under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code," the spokesperson said.
Accordingly, cognisance of the matter has been taken, and a formal case has been registered at the Police Station of the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar (Crime Branch). Further investigation into the matter is underway.
