Liverpool have reportedly notched up their interest in Xherdan Shaqiri by launching a formal bid for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
The 23-year-old midfielder is believed to be desperate to make a move out of the Allianz Arena due to him being way down the pecking order behind the likes of Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze at the German club.
Liverpool along with Manchester United were being heavily linked with a winter move for Shaqiri, but some recent reports had indicated that the Switzerland international would be moving to Wolfsburg in January due to him being comfortable playing in the Bundesliga.
However, according to the Express, the Reds, who are not ready to give up on Shaqiri that easily, have reported made a formal bid for the Swiss midfielder.
Although the Liverpool's offer has not been disclosed as of now, it is believed that the Reds have a very good chance of signing Shaqiri as Wolfsburg are only willing to take him on a loan.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers recent stated that his side would not be doing any business in the winter transfer window, insisting that he is happy with the players he has got.
But he seems to have made one exception for Shaqiri, who may well be able to help Liverpool's position in the Premier League in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says that deciding to leave Anfield was the "toughest decision" of his life, even though he feels that he has made the right choice keeping the best interests of everyone involved in mind.
The 34-year-old midfielder recently shocked everyone by announcing that he would be leaving Liverpool after the expiration of his contract this summer.
And Gerrard, who has been at Liverpool since he was seven years old, admits that it will not be easy for him to leave the club.
"This has been the toughest decision of my life and one which both me and my family have agonised over for a good deal of time," Gerrard told Liverpool's official website.
"Liverpool Football Club has been such a huge part of all our lives for so long and saying goodbye is going to be difficult but I feel it's something that's in the best interests of all involved, including my family and the club itself."
Although the former England captain says he will keep on playing, he insists that he will never play for any other Premier League side.
"I'm going to carry on playing and although I can't confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won't be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool - that is something I could never contemplate"
