Mario Balotelli may head back to Serie AReuters File

Mario Balotelli has been a huge misfit at Liverpool, where he has only scored two goals in all competitions, but not even once in the English Premier League. The player might be loaned out to a Serie A club during the January Transfer window.

Expectations were high when the highly rated Italian forward made a move to the Merseyside during the summer from AC Milan for £16 million.

He was touted as Luis Suarez's replacement after the Uruguyan moved to La Liga giants, Barcelona. The Italian was brought into the side after their failure to sign players like Alexis Sanchez, who would have been a likely replacement.

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were the most lethal striking pair in the EPL last season.

After Suarez departure, Liverpool wanted Sturridge to fire on all cylinders, but with the prolific striker injured, the goal scoring responsibility fell on the shoulders of Mario Balotelli, but the Italian also failed to deliver.

Despite his performance, Brendan Rodgers gave him enough chance to prove himself in Liverpool colours. Players such as Lambert and Borini were left frustrated when Balotelli would find a place in the starting eleven.

Rodgers seems to have finally given up on the player, as he has started to bench the player and use him as a substitute.

The player was even dropped from Liverpool's squad for their first game of the year in 2015 against Leicester, which makes one curious about the future of former Manchester City player.

The Daily Star reports that Balotelli's agent, Mino Raiola might be trying to loan the player back to the Serie A.

Owing to his disciplinary track record, there might not be many teams, which would be excited in signing the player from Liverpool.

As of now, Napoli have shown some interest in taking him for loan till the end of the season. But, with Gonzalo Higuain being their main striker, how would Balotelli fit into their starting eleven?

If Balotelli wants the Kop flop to leave Liverpool, they need to take their decision quickly, as they also need more time to bring in another player as well.

If he leaves, they might look to sign players such as Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, with the Uruguayan expected to cost a bomb. Another option for Liverpool could be Real Madrid's Benzema, who has been Liverpool's summer target as well.
