South Korean consumer electronics major LG on 28 April unveiled the new flagship smartphone leather-back G4.

Though the new phone keeps the design language of its predecessor, G4 looks stunning in its stitch-leather (genuine) cover exuding elegant outlook. It also comes with huge upgrade in terms of internal hardware over G3 especially in display and camera department.

To provide a clear perspective between the two G series siblings, we have done a quick specification rundown of LG G4 and its predecessor, G3.

Design:

When LG G2 made its debut in August 2013, many critics and fans felt odd about the smartphone's unorthodox placing of the power and volume rockers on the rear-side, just below camera module. [It came with hard plastic case]

The following year, too, the South Korean company went with the same design principle, but the new phone G3 looked more ergonomically refined, which  the company called the 'floating arc form' with elegant curvier corners and the addition of the shiny metallic rear-side has given true premium feeling.

In 2015, LG G4 comes with more evolved design-language tentatively called as Slim-Arc. It is highlighted by the display with a subtle curvature like we see in the curved displayed based G Flex 2. To add grandeur, the phone has been incorporated with handcrafted, genuine full grain leather. It will be made available in six colour options.

Display:

2014 model LG G3 was the first tier-1 brand in the industry to introduce a smartphone with 2K display with a staggering pixel density of 538ppi (pixels per inch) and now the company will up the ante in the new LG G4.

LG G4 is the industry's first QHD (2,560x1,220p) based smartphone to boast IPS Quantum Display technology. It is said to be 25% brighter and 20% wider colour-range than conventional QHD screens seen in Galaxy S6 (S6 Edge) and HTC One M9+.

Processor, RAM and Storage:

The third generation LG flagship device ships with 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 series processor and is available in two storage variants - 16GB (with 2GB RAM) and 32GB (3GB RAM) eMMC models with options of expansions up to 128 GB.

The new LG G4 ships with the 64-bit class Snapdragon 808 series CPU (Dual-core ARM Cortex A57 and quad-core A53 ), making it the first smartphone to boast the Qualcomm's hexa-core chipset. It is also backed by 3GB RAM and 32GB memory (expandable) and Qualcomm Adreno 418 GPU graphics engine which supports 3D gaming on devices.

Camera:

LG G4's other USP is its feature-rich 16mp camera on the rear-side. It boasts wide F1.8 aperture lens that allows 80% more light to reach the sensor. To enhance the photography experience under low-condition, the company has incorporated OIS 2.0, which doubles the performance of the improved OIS+ by expanding the range of image stabilisation from one degree to two degrees on the X- and Y-axis and adding a third axis, making LG G4, industry's top-notch camera phone. It also houses 8mp snapper on the front.

Whereas the LG G3 houses a 13mp camera with OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilisation Plus) and Laser auto-focus feature, which no other top-end phone in the industry boasts off. This feature measures the distance between the subject and the camera using a laser beam enabling quick capture of good quality photos even under low-light conditions.

On the front side, it packs a 2.1mp snapper capable of capturing full HD video.
