The budget smartphone space in India is booming, with new entries from various old and new OEMs. The latest is InFocus, which has challenged every other budget smartphone vendor in India with striking specs at an attractive price range, while making the choice difficult for buyers.
To help them in their decision-making, we compare two best-selling mid-rangers in India with InFocus M530. We pit the handset against Lenovo A7000 and Xiaomi Mi 4i to tell you which smartphone is worth your dime.
InFocus M530 and Lenovo A7000 have similar displays, measuring 5.5 inches diagonally with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 267ppi. Xiaomi Mi 4i gets a step ahead with its 5-inch Full HD display, which is quite expected from its high price tag. All the three phones have protection with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Powered by octa-core processors, Lenovo and InFocus choose MediaTek chipsets, while Xiaomi goes with Qualcomm. The Lenovo A7000 is powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6752m processor while InFocus M530 is run by a MediaTek MT6595 processor with four 2GHz Cortex-A17 cores+ four 1.7GHz Cortex-A7 cores. Similarly, Xiaomi Mi 4i is powered by a 64-bit class based Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC with H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) for faster operations.
In our review, the performance of Xiaomi Mi 4i and Lenovo A7000 was almost identical. We are expecting InFocus to offer similar usability.
RAM and Storage
2GB RAM is common on all three smartphones but there is a difference in the amount of inhouse storage offered in each model. The Lenovo A7000 offers lowest onboard storage at 8GB with an expandable option, while Xiaomi Mi 4i and InFocus M530 get treated with 16GB memory. Lack of microSD card slot in Mi 4i may be a dampener. InFocus M530 allows storage expansion up to 64GB.
In terms of camera, we might be more inclined towards InFocus M530 for its 13-megapixel front and rear facing cameras with LED flash. Both cameras use Sony Exmor sensors. The rear shooter has a f/1.8 aperture alongside OIS while the front snapper comes with f/2.2 aperture and 80-degree wide-viewing angle.
Xiaomi Mi 4i comes in second with its 13MP primary shooter with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. However, Lenovo A7000 packs an 8MP rear camera with Autofocus. The front snapper on both phones is 5MP, offering a decent amount of image quality.
Xiaomi and InFocus have almost identical battery units. The InFocus M530 packs a 3,100mAh removable battery while the Xiaomi Mi 4i has a non-removable 3,120mAh unit. Lenovo A7000 uses a 2,900mAh removable battery.
All the three phones fall are priced differently. At ₹8,999, Lenovo A7000 has an advantage over its rivals. Second in line is the InFocus M530, which has a launch price of ₹10,999. Xiaomi, on the other hand, charges ₹12,999 for its Mi 4i smartphone.
As far as price is concerned, Lenovo A7000 answers your need for a fast, good performing budget handset with a decent camera. In the fight between Xiaomi Mi 4i and InFocus M530, the newly-launched InFocus M530 wins hands down with its impressive camera, lasting battery and lag-free performance.
