Austrian motorcycle maker KTM is planning to launch its 2017 Moto GP machine R16 based limited edition motorcycle. The special edition, which will be comprise 100 units, will develop a whopping 240hp.

Arrival of the R16 based model was confirmed by Stefan Pierer, chairman of KTM, in an interaction with German publication Speedweek. "Next year we will be racing with the RC16, but a year later we will tackle it," Pierer said. "We want to build at least 100 pieces and also offer this product at a very affordable price. This motorcycle will not receive any road approval; It is only intended for closed racetracks. We want to be as close to the MotoGP bikes as possible. 270hp will of course not be, but with 240hp one must count reliably. I definitely want to get a much lower price for this production racer than Honda offers. I would like to see that we are heading towards 100,000 or 120,000 euros. Affordable driving is our philosophy."

The motorcycle will draw power from a 1,000cc V4 engine. The design for the motorcycle is yet to be confirmed but KTM has already appointed Wolfgang Felber as the project manager. Unlike the Honda MotoGP-Replica RCV 213-S that costs approximately Euro 185,000 (Rs 1.6 crore), KTM's Moto GP replica version is expected to be priced between Euro 100,000 and 120,000 (from Rs 72.80 lakh to Rs 87.35 lakh).

The motorcycle will be packed will all the bells and whistles, including electronic aids. This will help it maximise the power output and make the motorcycle more controllable.
