Superstar Krishna Ghattamaneni, who is making his comeback to the big screen with "Sri Sri," is celebrating his 73rd birthday today. He has been flooded with wishes from his fans and celebrities from the Telugu film industry.

Krishna was born at Burripalem village in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh on May 31, 1943. He began his acting career with a small role in "Padandi Mundhuku." After appearing in a few movies, he made his debut as the hero in "Tene Manasulu" in 1965. The movie was a big hit at the box office. From there on, there is no looking back for the talented star, who has acted in over 350 films during his career spanning over five decades.

The actor has starred in different genres of films, including mythological, drama, social, cowboy, western classic, folklore, action and historical movies. He has worked with ace directors like Adurthi Subba Rao, K Viswanath, Bapu, V Madhusudhana Rao, Dasari Narayana Rao and K. Raghavendra Rao. Krishna has also directed 17 films and produced many movies under his home banner, Padmalaya Film Studio.

He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema in 2009. He also received an honorary doctorate from Andhra University in 2008. Krishna received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award â€" South in 1997. He was elected as a Member of Parliament on a Congress party ticket in 1989.
