A Panama-origin cargo ship on Sunday, June 11, hit a fishing boat off the coast of Kerala, leading to the death of at least three fishermen. Local reports say 11 others have also been injured in the incident.

The Panama-registered cargo ship named Amber has been detained following the collision that reportedly destroyed the fishing boat that was carrying 14 fishermen. One of the fishermen was deemed "missing" after the incident, but was found, brought back on land and taken to hospital for treatment.

The Panamanian ship is currently under scanner because of how it behaved after the collision that took place at 2 am about 20 nautical miles off the coast of Kochi. The vessel left the spot of the collision, and was sought out and detained by Indian Navy and the Coast Guard only after a big search was mounted for it, Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam Range) P Vijayan told PTI.
