Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has landed in another controversy after a Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) leader was murdered in Mandya district. HDK was caught on tape telling someone on the phone that the accused murderers should be killed mercilessly.

In a video that went viral, CM Kumaraswamy, who had visited the crime scene, was heard talking over the phone asking an unknown person to avenge the murder.

"He was a good man. I don't know who killed him or why, and that too in this manner. Shoot them mercilessly, there would be no issues," HDK was heard talking on the phone.

On Monday evening, Honnalagere Prakash, a district-level member of the JD(S), was brutally murdered in Mandya. He was travelling by car on Mysuru highway when some miscreants on bikes followed him and stopped his car near Maddur highway and attacked him.

The armed assailants attacked Prakash, who was sitting at the back of the car, with machetes in broad daylight. The attackers left him inside the car drenched in blood.

The shocked bystanders called an ambulance and immediately rushed him to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

According to the hospital, Prakash was alive when he was bought in, but succumbed to his injuries within minutes.

However, the Chief Minister denied the allegations and clarified that his remarks came in a fit of anger as he was very emotional at that time.

"I said it in that tension. Because as soon as I landed I was told there is this murder that has happened. Person named Prakash has been killed... it was a natural human reaction... it was not my order as a CM... it was in the fit of rage in that situation because those people (alleged killers) are those who killed two others earlier.. were in jail, came out on bail.. within two days killed him... this man was very good, was actively involved in so many works for the society," he said, reported News18.

A murder case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by Prakash's friend Abhilash with Maddur police station.
