After an average second day, Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan and Alia Bhatt-starrer family drama "Kapoor and Sons" recorded a jump of 71 percent in its collection at the domestic box office. The family drama earned Rs 11.75 crore on its third day (Sunday) at the domestic box office.

"Kapoor and Sons" had a decent start with Rs 6.85 crore first day box office collections, on its second day (Saturday) the film raked in Rs 7.75 crore and on its third day the film minted Rs 11.75 crore. The opening weekend box office collection of "Kapoor and Sons" now stands at Rs 26.35 crore.

"#KapoorAndSons was EXCELLENT on Sun. With biz gathering speed on Day 3, it needs to hold STRONGLY on weekdays to have a robust Week 1," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, adding: "#KapoorAndSons finds patronage at urban centres, its target audience. Fri 6.85 cr, Sat 7.75 cr, Sun 11.75 cr. Total: ₹ 26.35 cr. India biz."

The opening weekend box office collection of "Kapoor and Sons" is the second highest after Akshay Kumar's "Airlift." The Sidharth, Fawad, and Alia-starrer has fared better than Sunny Deol's "Ghayal Once Again" and Sonam Kapoor's "Neerja" at the box office in terms of first weekend collection. Akshay's "Airlift" earned Rs 44.30 crore, "Kapoor and Sons" minted Rs 26.35 crore, "Ghayal Once Again" raked in Rs 23.25 crore and Neerja minted Rs 22.01 crore.

Shakun Batra's directorial film, which was released in 1,500 screens in India, will enjoy a good run at the box office in its first week. The film has received positive reviews and with strong word of mouth "Kapoor and Sons" will dominate the box office.

"Kapoor and Sons" is a rom-com produced by Karan Johar and also features Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak and Rajat Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Overseas box office 

While in India it remained the second highest opening weekend grosser, at the overseas box office "Kapoor and Sons" shattered Akshay's "Airlift" record. The film has surpassed the opening weekend overseas box office collection of "Airlift" to become the highest opener of 2016.
