Upsetting DMK party members and leader M. Karunanidhi, a Delhi court Thursday dismissed bail plea of former DMK MP Kanimozhi and seven others, who are accused in the 2G telecom scam.

Special Judge O.P. Saini dismissed Kanimozhi's bail plea under Section 437 of the Criminal Procedure Code on grounds of being a woman, saying that being from upper echelons of the society and also a member of Parliament, she suffered no sex discrimination.

Kanimozhi, who has been in the jail since May 20 in connection to 2G scam, has to return to jail as the court has dismissed her bail plea, stating the scam had grave implications for the economy of the country. The others who were denied bail are Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, Telecom Minister A. Raja's Private Secretary R.K. Chandolia, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, Bollywood filmmaker Karim Morani, Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar and Kusegaon Fruits & Vegetables directors Asif Balwa and Rajiv Agarwal. The trial for the accused begins Nov. 11.

Kanimozhi is moving the Delhi High Court Friday to seek to press her bail plea.
