The Chalakudy police have reportedly filed a case of unnatural death after the brother of actor Kalabhavan Mani, who died at a private hospital, lodged a complaint.

It was reported that Kalabhavan Mani passed away at Amrita Hospital in Kochi at 7:15 pm Sunday. He reportedly breathed his last, while undergoing treatment for liver and kidney-related diseases. His body was shifted to Thrissur Medical college for post-mortem, which will be conducted Monday morning.

But the latest reports suggest that the Chalakudy police have filed a case of unnatural death as traces of methyl alcohol were found in his body. An FIR has been filed at the Chalakudy police station under section 174 CrPc after Kalabhavan Mani's brother Ramakrishnan has lodged a complaint.

"We will question the doctors and others. We will wait for the post-mortem report and other medical reports. It is too early to say anything, let is not jump to concisions. Let the medical reports come," The NewsMinute quoted Thrissur Rural SP Karthik as saying.

However, Mani's sudden death has shocked the entertainment industry as he was a popular actor in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industry. He is known as a comedian as well as villain and has acted in more than 200 films. He received the National Film Special Jury Award and Kerala State Special Jury Award for his act of a blind person in "Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum." 

Mani is survived by his wife Nimmy and daughter Sree Lakshmy. Many celebrities and politicians, including Narendra Modi, Oommen Chandy, Pinarayi Vijayan, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nivin Pauly, Manju Warrier and many others have expressed their condolences on the sudden death of Mani.
