The box office performance of "Kaaka Muttai" has surprised many in the industry, considering that it does have a single Kollywood star. The low-budget children's movie is likely to yield high profits to the producer, exhibitors and distributors.

Its performance also needs to be seen in the context of releases such as "Masss" and "Demonte Colony" that are still dominating the screens.

"Kaaka Muttai" was considered an art movie, but the film has found many takers even among those who generally watch commercial movies. The good word-of-mouth and appreciation by critics have been key to its box office success.

The movie is a captivating story of two slum kids, who desire to eat pizza with their money. The brilliant narration and the performance of two kids (Ramesh and Vignesh) have won the hearts of the audience. The movie has been directed by Manikandan, who has also handled cinematography. Actors Simbu and Dhanush have done guest appearances in the film for which music has been composed by GV Prakash. Kishore Te has edited the movie.
