The security forces killed two terrorists in an encounter in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. An infiltration bid was foiled in the process. The operation is said to be still under way.

Two jawans were also killed in the encounter, while a third was injured. The injured jawan has been rushed to a hospital.

"Alert troops intercepted terrorists attempting to infiltrate in the intervening night of July 29-30. In an ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were killed. Two soldiers attained martyrdom. One soldier was injured," an army spokesperson said in Srinagar about the incident.

Two AK-47 assault rifles and some supplies are said to have been recovered from the deceased terrorists.

The fresh infiltration bid comes just days after four terrorists were killed, and more importantly one was caught alive in an encounter with security forces in Naugam in J&K near the Line of Control (LoC). This was significant because it happened to be July 26, which marks the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The terrorists, later identified as Bahadur Ali, has reportedly been invaluable to the intelligence agencies, providing inputs on a variety of topics. Among other things, he is said to have confirmed to the intelligence agencies that he met Lashkar-e-Taiba founder and 2008 Mumbai terror attacks master mind Hafiz Saeed during his training.
