Reliance Jio dominates India's feature phone market, which holds the majority in the mobile phone industry, with its JioPhone. Doubling down on the success of its effectively free JioPhone, the company introduced JioPhone 2 at the Annual General Meeting in July. Now, for the first time, JioPhone 2 will be available for purchase in a flash sale.

JioPhone 2 will go on sale via Jio.com starting at 12 p.m. on August 16. Considering the phone's low price tag of Rs 2,999, there could be high demand and the inventory could be replenished in a matter of minutes. Interested customers must log in to their accounts on Jio.com and be ready for the sale before it opens.

It is not clear if JioPhone 2 could be as successful as the original JioPhone, which was essentially free with Rs 1,500 refundable deposit. The JioPhone 2 doesn't come with the same refundable offer, but makes the upgrades count.

JioPhone 2 features a 2.4-inch display with a QWERTY physical keyboard and a 4-way navigation pad. It comes with a 2MP rear camera and a 0.3 VGA front camera. Like its predecessor, JioPhone 2 also runs KaiOS out-of-the-box, has a 2,000mAh battery and supports 4G VoLTE, FM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC.

JioPhone 2 offers support for dual SIM cards and can leverage voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) feature. It has a 512MB RAM and boasts 4GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD cards.

Other features include access to JioApps like MyJio, JioMusic, JioTV and more. It also supports Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube, all of which will soon be available to the original JioPhone as well.

JioPhone 2's first flash sale is scheduled only a day after Reliance Jio opens pre-registrations for its JioGigaFiber FTTH broadband on its official website. Locations that receive the highest interest would be the first to get the service, the company has said. More details about Jio GigaFiber's pricing and commercial rollout will most likely be revealed on Wednesday, August 15, so stay tuned.
