Pakistani troops violated ceasefire on Tuesday midnight along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian Army retaliated appropriately after Pakistani soldiers started mortar-shelling and firing on Indian posts.

"The Pakistan army troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on Indian army posts along LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir since midnight. Our troops are responding appropriately and no casualties or damage to our troops was reported till the report last came in. The firing was still going on," a Defence spokesperson told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

He added that the Pakistani troops used heavy mortars and opened fire with small arms and automatic weapons on forward posts along the LoC.

The police said that intermittent firing was still going on in the area.

This the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan in less than a week. Pakistan troops had violated ceasefire along the LoC in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district on Sept. 2, 2016.
