Indian World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten parted ways with Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Daredevils on Monday, and Zaheer Khan could reportedly succeed him.

The former South African hard-hitting southpaw was appointed head coach of the franchisee only last year. The Daredevils, however, didn't have a decent showing as they finished at the bottom of the table.

"Gary with his rich coaching experience made significant contribution towards our team culture, and his work ethics were immaculate. We appreciate his contribution towards our team-rebuilding process and would like to wish him the very best in all his future endeavours", said Delhi Dardevils CEO Hemant Dua in a statement on Monday.

Former Indian bowler Zaheer Khan, who announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, may reportedly be elevated to the position of a player-cum-coach. Khan had mentioned that the upcoming season of the IPL would be his final season as a player.

The ninth season of the IPL is scheduled to start on 8 April next year.
