Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are on fire after they cruised to the top of the IPL 2016 points table following a comprehensive their third win of the tournament, against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday. Robin Uthappa was the main man behind this victory, as he scored an impressive half-century.

KKR's opening duo of Uthappa and skipper Gautam Gambhir have given their side just the kind of starts they need, and they are looking to put up similar partnerships in the upcoming games as well.

The Karnataka cricketer loves to open the batting and stated that his understanding with Gambhir at the top of the batting order make things a lot easier.

Uthappa and Gambhir added 82 runs in just 8 overs against KXIP and that clearly took the game away from the hosts on Tuesday.

"I just think that when it is a 130-140-run chase you tend to hang back a little bit sometimes. And I knew that these are those middle scores where sometimes it can catch you off-guard. So I knew that it was important for us to get off to a good start," Uthappa was quoted as saying by the official website of the IPL

"I knew that if we get off to slightly good start where we got 25-30 in the first three-four overs we would put them on the back-foot and then we could dominate as we would be creating momentum."

"And with Gautam and I, I think we kind of understand each other very well and we just carry that forward."

Uthappa feels being consistent in the IPL is a result of maintaining the core of the team.

"It's the fact that we have not changed too much. We stick to the same core. We are spoilt for choices where picking the XI is concerned. So kudos to the selection by the franchise," Uthappa added.

KKR will face MS Dhoni's Rising Pune Supergiants in their next game on Sunday.
