Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner KC Cariappa did not have an impressive debut. Compared to the hype that was created around him and the amount of money that was paid by the KKR management in this year's auction, he could not live upto that level.

Although it was not the ideal start to the tournament for him but the fans would feel for him as he is just 20 years old and he had to face two of the most devastating batsmen in the world, Chris Gayle and Ab de Villiers reported the official Indian premier League website.

He said in a chat with the iplt20.com, "It is not a great start to my IPL career. I panicked and I was under pressure." He added, "It was a huge challenge for me to walk up and bowl my first over to Chris Gayle. I was just a little nervous."

His very first over went for plenty and KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir had to pull him out of the attack. Later, he came back to bowl to de Villiers but for taken for a lot of runs yet again but he eventually had the last laugh as de Villiers missed one and he was stumped by Robin Uthappa behind the stumps.

The team management and his skipper would back the visibly dejected youngster. Gambhir feels that he should learn from the likes of Sunil Narine. When asked about Narine, Cariappa said, " His variations in pace and the grip of the ball is something that I am trying to grasp from him. This may not be an ideal start, but I am confident I will learn from this and do well in the rest of the games."
