The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) have taken a huge decision, handing a life ban to cricketer Ajit Chandila for his involvement in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing case. Mumbai's Hiken Shah was banned for five years by the cricket body for breaching the anti-corruption code.
The decision, announced on Monday, was taken by a three-member panel, headed by BCCI president Shashank Manohar, and also comprising of Jyotiraditya Scindia and Niranjan Shah. On 24 December, 2015, both players were asked to appear in person before the committee and were asked to file their response against the respective charges that were levied upon them.
With this decision (ban) by the BCCI, Chandila also falls in the same bracket as former Rajasthan Royals teammates S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, who were both handed life bans by the board for their involvement in the spot-fixing scandal, which marred the sixth edition of the IPL.
"Ajit Chandila is held guilty of misconduct and corruption within the Articles 2.1.1; Article 2.1.2; Article 2.1.3; Article 2.1.4; Article 2.2.2; Article 2.2.3; Article 2.4.1 of the BCCI Anti Corruption Code," said a BCCI release.
"Ajit Chandila is banned for life from playing or representing cricket in any form or to be associated in any way with the activities of the Board or its Affiliates."
Shah's cricket career seems to be as good as over as well. The player, 31, will find it difficult to make a comeback to the IPL or his Ranji side, considering his age.
"Hiken Shah is held guilty of committing breach of Articles 2.1.1; Article 2.1.2 and Article 2.1.4 of the BCCI Anti Corruption Code. Hiken Shah is banned for five years from playing or representing cricket in any form or to be associated in any way with the activities of the Board or its Affiliates," added the release.
