The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have barely hit the stores and people have already started talking about the next flagship smartphone, dubbed iPhone 7. The device could come with a unique design and perhaps sans Apple's iconic Home button.

Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster has said that the iPhone 7 could have a look very different from previous iPhones.

"Given a number change cycle, we expect the iPhone 7 to sport a unique design from the iPhone 6/6S. As many have speculated, the addition of 3D Touch may provide Apple with a way to eliminate the home button on the phone and use the additional space to make the screen bigger or make the device smaller," Barron's quoted Munster as saying.

"One barrier to this could be Touch ID, which is integrated into the home button currently. Apple would need to move the Touch ID reader to potentially the side of the phone to remove the home button. We believe a home-buttonless iPhone has a 50% chance for the iPhone 7," he added.

Munster went on to say that Apple's iPhone 7 may come with a significant improvement in battery and perhaps sport a sapphire screen.

Apple is tight-lipped on its upcoming next-generation smartphone but is expected to release the handset in September 2016, by the time the iPhone 6s completes a year cycle in the market.

According to reports, the iPhone 7 is expected to have a flat LCD screen, A10 chip, six-element lenses, water and dust proof, wireless charger and a complete metal body. DigiTimes reported that Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has claimed in a note to investors on Apple's plan to make its upcoming iPhone, possibly the iPhone 7, between 6.0 and 6.5 mm thick.
