KL Rahul might have suffered an agonising moment on day three of the fifth Test in Chennai, but for the most part it was India's day, with the batsmen making full use of a flat-as-a-pancake pitch. The England bowlers toiled for an entire day on Sunday and they will expect more of the same come day four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The pitch has shown very little signs of life – there is turn and every now and then one does so sharply, but with the wicket being so slow, there really is nothing much to worry about for the batsmen.

India showed that by scoring 331 runs on the third day, losing just four wickets in the process. Rahul was the main man, scoring 199, before getting out to a full and wide delivery from Adil Rashid in his eagerness to get to his first Test match double hundred. While the opener will be disappointed at missing out on a double century, he should be happy in the manner in which he batted, albeit on a nothing-is-happening-for-the-bowlers pitch, especially considering he was coming off a few low scores.

For the fans and even for the players, the hope is that the wicket changes on days four and five. If it starts to take a lot more turn, and if India can manage to get to England's total, or even go above it, maybe the pressure will also play its part.

If that doesn't happen (too many ifs already), this Test match looks like ending in a dull draw in what has, otherwise, been a smashing series.

Much will depend on how Day 4 goes – England need to make the running, considering they will be desperate for a pride-saving win. India have already wrapped up the series and they will be happy to bat on, on the penultimate day, pile up as many runs as they think before then, if all goes according to plan, applying some scoreboard pressure on England.
