The last few months have been largely forgettable for KL Rahul and nothing changed for the opening batsman in Sydney as he was once again dismissed for a single digit score in India's first innings.

Rahul was dropped from India's team in the third Test match at Melbourne and Hanuma Vihari was asked to open the batting with Mayank Agarwal. Rohit Sharma played at number 6. But due to the unavailability of Rohit in the fourth Test match due to the birth of a baby girl, Vihari went back to number 6 and Rahul was given yet another chance to prove himself at the top of the order.

The Karnataka-lad did not look comfortable in his short vigil at all despite scoring 9 runs off 6 balls. Out of his 9 runs, two were boundaries down to third man that came off the edge of Rahul's bat. But the third time he edged the ball, luck ran out for Rahul as the ball was pouched by the safe hands of Shaun Marsh at slip.

With his failure in this innings, Rahul has scores of 0, 4, 33*, 2, 44, 2, 0, 9 in his last 8 Test innings. His repeated failures have made him a constant target for Twitterati and it was no different on January 3.

This person thinks Rahul is playing because of his skills off the pitch.

India finished the day looking strong on 303-4 with Cheteshwar Pujara and Vihari batting on 130 and 39, respectively.
