"I am a party worker and Nitin Nabin is my boss," says PM Modi as BJP chief gets Z-category security coverIANS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on his election as the BJP's National President, remarking that while he himself would remain a "party worker", Nabin would now be his "boss". Addressing party leaders and workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi during the conclusion of the organisational election process (Sangathan Parv), PM Modi said that the BJP's leadership transition reflected the party's deep-rooted democratic traditions and worker-centric culture.

Nitin Nabin was formally elected as the BJP National President, becoming the youngest leader to hold the post. Outgoing party chief J.P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari felicitated him at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Modi said the BJP's organisational elections — from booth-level units to the national president — were conducted in accordance with the party's constitution and democratic values. "When it comes to party affairs, I am a worker, and Nitin Nabin is my boss," the Prime Minister said amid loud applause.

Calling Nabin a "millennial leader", PM Modi said he represents a generation that has witnessed major economic, social and technological transformations. He added that Nabin combines youthful energy with long organisational experience, which would benefit the party in the coming years as India moves towards the goal of a 'Viksit Bharat'.

PM Modi also recalled the contributions of past BJP leaders, noting how the party grew under leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda, strengthening the organisation from the panchayat level to Parliament.

Outgoing BJP president J.P. Nadda congratulated Nabin, describing the occasion as historic. He praised Nabin as a grassroots worker with strong ideological grounding and noted that he has served as a five-time MLA from Bihar's Bankipur constituency at a young age.

As the sole candidate, Nabin was elected by the BJP's electoral college, comprising members of the national and state councils, in line with party rules requiring extensive organisational experience and support.

Meanwhile, underscoring the elevated stature of the BJP's new leadership, the Central government has provided Z-category security cover to Nitin Nabin. The decision was taken by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs based on an Intelligence Bureau threat perception assessment. The CRPF's VIP security wing will provide round-the-clock protection during his travels, public engagements and at his residence.

The security arrangement, which aligns with the protocol extended to his predecessor J.P. Nadda, was initiated after Nabin's appointment as national working president in December 2025 and intensified following his unopposed election as full president, backed by senior leaders including PM Modi, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.

At 45, Nitin Nabin brings extensive grassroots and administrative experience, having served as a state minister handling portfolios such as Road Construction, Urban Development and Law. The enhanced security is seen as a precautionary step given his high-profile role, which includes extensive travel for upcoming Assembly elections and preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
