HTC U11 flagship smartphone was recently spotted in a product listing on the company's India website, which fuelled speculation of an imminent launch in the sub-continent. We have already seen the U11's initial launch at a HTC media event in Taiwan, but the company is yet to announce the handset's pricing and availability details in India.
U11's key user-selling point (USP) is its ability to perform a variety of tasks using the new Edge Sense technology, wherein a user can launch apps or shoot a photo on the camera by simply squeezing the phone on its edges. Depending on the degree of pressure applied on the device's UI, one can open a number of apps such as Google Assistant and Alexa.
U11 retains some design language from its predecessors such as the liquid surface glass on the rear with embedded colours that give it a highly glossy and premium look. The Indian variant of the U11 is expected to be available in just two colours: brilliant black and amazing silver.
Coming to the specifications, U11 comes with a 5.5in QHD display with protective 3D glass on all sides. The handset will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is the fastest processor in the market.
On the camera front, U11 is expected to feature a 12-megapixel camera with dual-pixel autofocus, optical image and electronic stabilisation features with Auto HDR Boost. It also sports a 16MP selfie camera on the front with support for wide-angle lens, selfie panorama mode and low-light photography.
U11 replaces the 3.5mm audio jack with a USB Type-C port. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and Beidou.
Among other noteworthy features, U11 comes with a water resistant design, USonic Boomsound Hi-Fi Edition speakers, 3,000mAh battery and supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3 technology. U11 will be available in two storage options, 64GB and 128GB which can further be expanded via microSD slot.
