HTC has reportedly released the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA (Over-The-Air) update to the 2014 flagship smartphone One M8 in India.

Soon after the official announcement of new Android mobile OS in October, HTC had promised to roll out the 5.0 Lollipop to marquee phones One M8 and M7 within 90 days of getting their hands on mobile OS ROM from Google, but it never materialised.

HTC acknowledged that it failed to live up to the promise and reasoned that during the test run of Android 5.0 on Lollipop OS, some bugs were detected, hence delaying to deliver the update.

"We've (HTC) been diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google's fixes as quickly as possible, but despite everyone's best efforts some carrier versions of the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) will not meet our 90 day goal, which is February 1st. While we are committed to delivering within this time period, we are even more committed to ensuring these updates result in an even better experience with your device because that is what the updates are intended to do," said Mo Versi, HTC, Vice President (Product Management) on his official blog post.

As a welcome move, HTC has finally rolled out (hopefully bug free) latest candy-flavoured Google mobile OS to the HTC One M8 in the subcontinent.

The new OS update is a little over 570MB in size and is said to bring in new user interface, security update, performance tweaks and other improvements, reported AndroidOS.in.

How to install Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA update:

If HTC One M8 owners are getting the update notifications, then select - "Yes, I'm in" option >> then, after downloading, select >> "Install now." The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.

As of now, Android 5.0 is released to One M8 and soon One M7 is expected get a taste of Lollipop.

We would like to remind our readers that the OTA updates are released in stages, so it will take some time, probably a few weeks to reach all corners of the world.

Until then users can check manually by going to Settings >> About phone >> System update.

For the uninitiated, Google's new Android v5.0 Lollipop OS comes with completely refurbished new design language material design bringing interactive user interface, lots of animation graphics, replacement of Dalvik with ART as its default runtime will bring improvement in performance and battery-life enhancements.
