Ahead of the major launch of Jio GigaFiber in India, Reliance Jio has a bit of a surprise for its prepaid users. While the new telco is known for its competitive data and voice bundles, it is offering its existing users a treat that will please them immensely.

If you're already on Reliance Jio's network, there's a possibility you'll get additional data for free. Some users are seeing 2GB data allotment in addition to their existing daily limit as per the selected tariff, MySmartPrice reported.

The free data offer is applicable only for users who have an active prepaid plan on their number, but the free 2GB data per day is not for all users. Only selected users are seeing the top-up option in the MyJio app, so users will have to individually check their respective plan details to see if the offer is available.

To do so, Jio customers must launch the MyJio app, and click on "View details" under the plan. This will take you to the "My plans" page, where you'll see your active prepaid plan along with remaining SMS and data. Just below those details will be a separate column labelled "Jio digital pack."

If users do not see the additional box, it means the free top-up offer isn't available on their number. But those who do see the Jio digital pack will see 2GB data per day allotted for free. But the offer is only valid till August 6, 2018.

As it appears, the free 2GB high-speed data will automatically get activated once the user exhausts the daily limit. Users do not get any other benefits such as SMS or voice pack other than 2GB data per day till August 6.

The free data top-up comes on the heels of Jio launching its FTTH broadband in India on August 15. Jio GigaFiber will be rolled out across 1,100 cities in India with competitive plans, disrupting yet another internet-providing space. Interested folks can register their interest on the company's official website and through MyJio app as the company will prioritize localities based on the number of registrations.
