People are using online platforms to oppose celebrations centred around Hindi Diwas, demanding equal recognition to all scheduled languages of India. Hindi Diwas is observed on Sept.14 every year, to celebrate the recognition of Hindi as an official language by the Constituent Assembly of India on Sept.14, 1949 and its penetration into diversified fields.

Events around the Hindi Diwas are held at Central Government offices and schools across the country, apart from various other venues in the Hindi-speaking states of the country.

However, many people, mainly from non-Hindi speaking states of India, have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration over Hindi Diwas, and demand that equal importance be given to all scheduled languages of India.

A Twitter campaign,  #GOIMakeMyLanguageOfficial, has been trending on social media channels. The campaign is aimed at urging the government to recognise all scheduled languages as official languages in the country.
