Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel's son was prevented by authorities from boarding a Qatar Airways flight to Greece after he arrived in a "heavily drunken" state on Monday, May 8. Reports state Jaiman Patel also misbehaved with the airline's staff.

Jaiman, who is in his mid 30's, arrived with his wife Jhalak and daughter Vaishvi and were stopped from boarding the plane, which was scheduled to take-off at 4am. The family was headed to Greece for a vacation.

When Patel, who is a land dealer, reached the Ahmedabad International Airport, he was barely able to walk because of his drunken state. He cleared the immigration and other checks in a wheelchair due to his inebriated condition, said airport officials.

"Jaiman Patel was prevented from boarding the flight. He also had an argument with the staff of the airways," said an official, who chose to remain anonymous.

However, Nitin Patel while addressing the media on Monday evening claimed that all these were done to defame him. "My son, his wife and daughter were going for a vacation. He was not feeling well," said the Deputy CM.

"His wife called up home and then it was decided to return home and not proceed. Our opponents are trying to tarnish our image by spreading false and mischievous information," the minister added.
