Happy New Year
Shah Rukh Khan's 'Happy New Year' reaches Oscar libraryIB Times India

Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer "Happy New Year" has created history by beating the highest opener record held by Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3".

"Dhoom 3", released last year, earned ₹36.22 on the foremost day making it the highest single earner, but "Happy New Year" has easily surpassed that figure.

"Happy New Year" has earned a whopping ₹44.97 crore on the opening day from the domestic box office. The Hindi version of the film earned ₹42.62 crore, Telugu version ₹1.43 crore and Tamil version got ₹92 lakh, according to Bollywood Hungama.

Looking at the advance booking status of the film, trade analysts predicted that the film would earn around ₹40 crore, but the film has earned more than that.

"It had bumper opening. The occupancy was 80 percent at most places. The opening weekend collection will be really good because of holiday. Let's see if it will be able to maintain the figures Monday onwards," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

"SRK's 'Happy New Year' has taken a cracker of an opening. The fact that it's the solo release of the week has added to the fun. This could well be the film that will take the highest opening ever," said Ashish Saksena, COO Big Cinemas.

The Farah Khan directorial received phenomenal response from both single screens and multiplexes across the country. Despite being one of the lengthiest films of the year, the film took a flying start.

Now all eyes are set on the second and third day box office income of the film. Looking at the first day box office income, it seems that the film would beat "Dhoom 3" record again to become the fastest ₹100 crore grosser film.
