When "Gotham" returns for the second half of the season on Monday, fans will see Jim Gordon at Arkham Asylum, where he was transferred to for pressurising Lovecraft, and he will immediately hit it off with Dr. Leslie Thompkins, the character played by Morena Baccarin.

The friendship that grows out of their need to do the right thing in a corrupt city like Gotham is also likely to bring them together on a romantic level. Baccarin recently addressed this possibility in an interview saying they are "pretty drawn to each other." And unlike in the comics, Leslie will be associated with Jim and not the Wayne family.

Speaking about the similarities between Leslie and Jim, Baccarin told IGN:"Like him, she's someone who doesn't really stand for bulls***. She's very pragmatic and isn't fazed by the craziness of Gotham. So they're pretty drawn to each other and they wind up teaming up,"

Although the creepy and dark institution will get a lot of screentime as the show moves forward, fans will also get to see Leslie and Jim bonding outside of the mental institution.

"She gets out [of Arkham] which is really fun and her and Jim kind of pair up and have this really great relationship. I think it's important. Arkham is a really kind of iconic and dark and crazy world but I don't think you want to spend too much time in there," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"Jim finds an ally in her, which I think is important for him at this point. He's beaten down by the system and he's been fighting this one-man operation to make Gotham not as corrupt. I think it's really important that he finds that relationship in Leslie."

As for the first episode of the year, the official synopsis of "Rogues' Gallery" noted that Jim's first day at the Asylum will be rocky due to the murder of a guard, and new enemies will make their presence felt. Fans will also get to see a lot of Alfred Pennyworth in the second half of the season.

"Gotham" starring Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney and Sean Pertwee as Alfred returns to FOX on Monday, 5 January.
