Two unidentified men shot dead a senior TV journalist in a drive-by shooting incident in Pakistani city of Karachi on Wednesday. It was second such killing within 24 hours after gunmen shot dead a Geo TV employee on Sunday.

Aftab Alam, 42, had a long stint with Geo TV but for the last one-and-a-half-year he was on sabbatical due to health issues.

Pakistani Daily Dawn reported that the shooting took place in north Karachi's Sector 11-C when Alam was leaving his house to pick his children up from their school. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

However, his mother and sister took the body to Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) hoping that Alam could be saved, it was reported. The man was reportedly shot in the head.

Earlier, a technical engineer of Geo News was killed on Tuesday when gunmen opened fire on a news van in Bahadurabad area of Karachi. The van driver also suffered bullet injuries in the attack.

It was not clear if the two attacks were connected. A Times of India report noted that Geo TV was previously banned over a conflict with the country's powerful spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
