Shah Rukh Khan's "Fan" will start the second quarter of the year at the box office on a good note. "Fan" is the first big-budget release of the year starring a Khan and thus, it is expected to open on a humongous note.

The advance booking report of Shah Rukh's film is good and looking at the opening day occupancy it can be said that the film will record the highest first-day box office collection of 2016. This year, Akshay Kumar's "Airlift," which is the biggest grosser until now, recorded the highest opening day collection of Rs. 12 crore. And now Shah Rukh's film is all set to beat the record.

The good opening day occupancy combined with higher ticket rates will make ensure that "Fan" will open with more than Rs. 15 crore income, but it remains to be seen whether it will emerge as Shah Rukh's biggest opener. SRK's "Happy New Year" still holds the record of the highest opener in India, however, the film was released on a holiday during Diwali.

On the other hand, Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3" holds the record of the highest non-holiday opener with a collection of approximately Rs. 36.22 crore. The second highest non-holiday grosser is Aamir's "PK," which earned Rs. 26.63 crore on its first day. However, both the films were released during Christmas holidays. Though "Fan" is slated for a summer release, the film will face a big competition from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2016) matches.

"Fan" would easily surpass "Airlift" collection and emerge as the biggest opener, but it remains to be seen whether it will beat the non-holiday releases first day records. Nevertheless, more than Rs. 20 crore would be a good figure for "Fan."

Starring Shah Rukh in a double role, the film is slated for April 15 release. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the thriller drama is produced by Yash Raj Films.
