Rain forced early stumps on Day 4 of the second Test match between England and New Zealand at Headingley on Monday.

England were set a target of 455 runs by the Kiwis, after the latter declared on 454 for eight. The Kiwis had left the field on Day 3 with a total of 338 runs on the board with BJ Watling and Mark Craig at the crease. It was obvious that the Black Caps were looking for a total of anything above 400-plus and then ask the English batsmen to chase it down.

Watling was the star of the show as he powered New Zealand to a total of 454. Unfortunately, he got out on a score of 120 but Craig hit a gritty half-century towards the end of the innings to remain unbeaten at the crease.

England came out to bat on Day 4 before lunch. First innings centurion Adam Lyth and Alastair Cook had to make sure that they don't throw their wickets away. Lyth started scoring at a good pace, while Cook was playing a supporting role. England could bat for only three overs post lunch as rain washed out the rest of the day's play.

Lyth is at the crease with 24 runs from 29 balls and skipper Cook, who recently became the highest ever run scorer for England in Tests surpassing Graham Gooch's record, is on 18 from 49 balls. England still require 411 runs on the final day of the second Test match in Leeds.

The Kiwi bowlers will have to bowl really well to get through the England batting order as the home team have plenty of batsmen who are capable of taking on the bowling attack. If England manage to chase the target on the final day, it will be an exciting finish to the two-Test match series.
