Eleven people died and at least seven have been hospitalised after consuming poisonous liquor in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, as per reports. The seven people, who have been hospitalised, are said to be in critical condition.

Seven more have been hospitalised at a local clinic in Morena. One person, who is said to be in a critical condition, has been referred to Gwalior for treatment.

Probe is underway

According to the police, the probe is underway to ascertain whether the deaths were due to the excessive liquor consumption or it was poisonous. Sources said that four people in Sumawali and seven in Manpur villages died after consuming suspected spurious liquor on Monday night.

Several others fell seriously ill and they were referred to Morena district hospital and Gwalior medical college for treatment. Inspector General of Police, Chambal, Manoj Sharma said that the cause of death is being investigated.
