After a month of fasting during Ramadan, Muslims around the world will celebrate Eid ul-Fitr, which is the festival of charity, love, and communal prayer. Eid ul Fitr marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal, and like other months, it is based on lunar cycles. Depending on the moon sighting, the month of Ramadan can be 29 or 30 days.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf and Western countries celebrate Eid a day before India, in the same way Ramadan begins a day early. This year, Eid will fall on Friday in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran and other Western countries, including the UK, US, etc. Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday.

In the sub-continent, Eid will fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The crescent was not sighted anywhere in India, which means Ramadan will be completed with 30 fasts. Neighbouring countries, including Pakistan and Bangladesh, too, will celebrate Eid on Saturday.

"The moon of Holy Shawwal month of 1447 Hijri was not sighted in the sky of the country today. The holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday," Bangladesh's religious affairs minister announced.
