Muslims all over the world are celebrating the Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting and beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.
Over 1.6 billion Muslims across the globe obseve fasting throughout the holy month of Ramadan. They offer prayers, sacrificing all worldly pleasures and refraining from consuming food and drink from sunrise to sunset all these days. The celebrations of Eid al-Fitr begin after the sighting of the crescent moon on the last day of the month.
The end of the Ramadan month is announced based on the sighting of the new moon and it varies from one country to another country. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated in Saudi Arabia, the U.S., the U.K. and Australia on July 6 and in India on July 7 this year.
Eid al-Fitr is a three-day festival day and on this occasion, Muslims offer prayers and organise family unions during which special dishes are served and gifts are exchanged. Wishing the friends and relatives through messages and greetings on the social media has become a trend these days.
