Egyptian singer Shaaban Abdel Rahim, also known as Shaboula, has slammed Egyptian Academy of Arts for honouring Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan with an honorary doctorate.

The Cairo-born pop singer said that he deserves to be honoured with the degree and not the Bollywood star.

While talking to a local media, Shaboula said that he fought off Isis for Egypt, but Amitabh Bachchan did not even dare to speak about them.

"I have a right to a degree for what I have given to Egypt," he told the host of an Egyptian talk show, according to local media.

"I fought off ISIS, Israel, and Obama for Egypt, and Amitabh Bachchan does not dare to speak of the," the singer added.

During his visit to Egypt last week, Big B stayed in Marriott hotel and according to Shaboula he was also offered a sauna room.

Talking about Big B's Cairo visit, Shaboula said that even he wants to receive the same treatment as Big B did.

"They invited Amitabh Bachchan to the Marriott and gave him a sauna...I want one too. I don't know what that is...so I want one," he told the local media.

The 58-year-old singer is one of the most popular Egyptian sha'bī singers and is known for his politically fuelled lyrics.

Meanwhile, the Bollywood megastar had tweeted about the honorary doctorate and said that he was "honoured" to receive the degree. This is the first time Egyptian Academy of Arts honoured a Bollywood celebrity with the degree for his contribution to cinema.
