Sony's smartphone portfolio hasn't been as strong as its PlayStation and audio accessories, but the Japanese tech giant is slowly getting into the game. After the recent launches like Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZ1, the company is focusing on strengthening its position as a smartphone leader, but there's a stiff competition ahead.

The widely-criticised thick bezels on the Xperia smartphones have been a turn off for many, but rumours have it that 2018 is going to be the year when Sony will finally ditch them for FullView display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Even though this move is not unprecedented as other OEMs such as Apple and Samsung have already done that, it's welcoming nevertheless.

But that's not the only change in the next-gen Xperia flagships that'll woo smartphone enthusiasts. The latest details that emerged on Reddit last week suggest the alleged Sony H8216 smartphone is going to sport two 12MP cameras on the back and a 15MP Sony EXMOR RS sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the front.

This is going to be a game-changer in the smartphone camera segment, where major companies are focusing on cameras more than ever. Sony achieved some incredible results with its Xperia XZ Premium and XZ1 single lens cameras, and we can only imagine what the company has in store for its users with an upgraded setup.

The leaked spec-sheet also suggests that the upcoming Xperia flagship will have Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Android 8.1 Oreo and a 3,130mAh battery with Quick Charge support. The handset will also boast the company's signature IP65/68 certification for dust and waterproofing.

Another key highlight is the 5.48-inch Full HD HDR TRILUMINOS Display for mobile with sRGB 148 percent. The phone's dimensions have also been marked at 148 x 73.4 x 7.4 mm and weight at 156 grams.

Sony's new flagship and mid-range series are expected to make an official debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next year. Stay tuned for updates.
