Admittedly, episode 3 of "Downton Abbey" was one of the most tear jerking episodes so far this season. Britian's beloved butler, Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) finally tied the knot with his colleague and now wife, Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan). If you are wondering how Carson's life will change after his wedding, the producers have left you to deal with the return of Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and his daughter, Sybbie.

The teaser for episode 4 hints at Tom Branson's life at the estate, Anna and Bates' continuing marriage troubles and a surprise visit from a former housemaid, Gwen Dawson (Rose Leslie).

Most of you will remember Gwen as Ygritte from the hit HBO series, "Game of Thrones." While her character left the life of service in search of a secretarial job in season 1, her return to Downton is intriguing.

In the teaser, the staff is wary of finding her at the front door and Gwen exhibits the same anxiety and doesn't talk to any of her former colleagues.

While the estate is shrouded in a cloud of gossip about Gwen, the promo also teases trouble between Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle) and Anna (Joanne Froggatt). In episode 3, Anna hints at a possible pregnancy but says that she wants to tell her husband only when she's absolutely sure. Perhaps her evasiveness fogs Mr. Bates' cool headedness and he trails her around the estate. In the preview clip, he asks her, "Are you hiding something from me?"

Although Anna remains non-committal, it remains to be seen if she will indeed unveil the happy news.

Cartermatt released the synopsis for episode 4:

"As Tom and Sybbie settle back into life at Downton, the family and servants are surprised with the return of another old friend in unexpected circumstances. A visit from Sergeant Willis leaves Baxter with a dilemma, while Thomas struggles to fill Mr Carson's shoes. As a crisis takes Anna and Mary to London, will Bates find out what Anna has been keeping from him? Daisy has a bone to pick with Cora and Mary's eye is caught by an admirer."

"Downton Abbey" season 6 episode 4 airs on Sunday, 11 October at 9pm on ITV.
