A gory video showing a man raping a dog has been circulated widely on WhatsApp and is presumed to have taken place in Kerala, Humane Society International/India told International Business Times, India. The animal rights group filed a complaint with the Kochi police, Thursday.

HSI India has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to whoever provides information on the source of the video.

"The video shows a man penetrating and raping a helpless dog while another person is heard in the background recording the crime," NG Jayasimha, managing director of HSI India said.

"The man was speaking in Malayalam, and it is possible the incident happened in Kerala. However, we have been unable to trace the source of the video," he told IBTimes India.

While HSI India announced the reward Thursday, it has not received any leads yet. "Our difficulty is that we cannot put up the graphic video on our website, as many children come to the site," Jayasimha said.

Such depraved animal abuse can face punishment of up to imprisonment for life, he said.
