Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Several celebrities arrived at the Pawan Hans crematorium for his last rites. Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Deepika–Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and many others were spotted by the paparazzi.

Hema Malini and Esha Deol were visibly bereaved as they rushed to the crematorium. Paparazzi even mobbed their cars.

However, no official statement has been released by the family regarding Dharmendra's demise.

Several celebrities took to social media to pen heartfelt tributes. PM Modi, Dr. Prasoon Joshi, Murugadoss, among others, also offered their condolences.

The President of India tweeted, "The demise of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Shri Dharmendra Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. One of the most popular actors, he delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long illustrious career. As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers.

PM Modi wrote, "The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti."

Filmmaker Karan Johar took to his Instagram handle to mourn Dharmendra's demise and wrote a moving tribute. Karan shared a throwback video, "It is an end of an ERA..... a massive mega star... the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema... incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence ... he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema... defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history ... but mostly he was the best human being... he was so loved by everyone in our industry .... He only had immense love and positivity for everyone ... his blessings, his hug and his incredible warmth will be missed more than words can describe .... Today there is a gaping hole in our industry ... a space that can never be filled by anyone ... there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI... we love you kind Sir.... We will miss you so much.... The heavens are blessed today.... It will always be my blessing to have worked with you.... And my heart says with respect, reverence and love.... Abhi Na jao chodke.... Ke dil abhi bhara nahi......

Kareena Kapoor posted a picture of her grandfather, Raj Kapoor, sharing a hug with Dharmendra. She posted it with a heart emoji. She also wrote 'Forever in Power' and 'Chardi Kala'.

"Growing up, Dharmendra ji was the hero every boy wanted to be...our industry's original He-Man. Thank you for inspiring generations. You'll live on through your films and the love you spread. Om Shanti," wrote Akshay Kumar.

"Dharam ji was my parents' favourite and one of my childhood heroes. He had a warmth you felt even before he spoke. His dignity, his humour, and the way he carried himself on and off screen left a deep mark on everyone who met him or watched him. Losing him feels personal. His films, his love for people, and the gentle strength he stood for will stay with us. Om Shanti," wrote Manoj Bajpayee.

Jr NTR wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dharmendra ji...An era he defined can never be replaced, and the warmth he brought to Indian cinema will stay with us forever. My heartfelt condolences and prayers to the entire family..."

Actress Shilpa Shetty shared a heartfelt note remembering her experience working with Dharmendra in Apne (2007). Posting pictures with the late star, she wrote: "I've had the privilege of working with many talented actors, but none with a bigger heart than yours... your humility, simplicity and kindness were inspiring. Rest in peace, Dharamji. You will be missed. Om Shanti."

Calling Dharmendra a cornerstone of Hindi cinema, Ajay Devgn wrote: "Heartbroken to hear about Dharam ji. His warmth, generosity and presence inspired generations. We've lost someone who shaped the very soul of our cinema."

His wife, Kajol, also posted an emotional tribute, sharing a picture of their son Yug sitting on Dharmendra's lap: "The OG of the Good Man is gone... Kind to the core and loved always."
Kajol had shared the screen with Dharmendra in films like Taaqat (1995) and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998).

Producers Guild of India, " An era ends with the passing of a true legend. Dharmendra ji's iconic career spanning over six decades shall forever hold a special place in the annals of the history of Indian cinema. Heartfelt condolences to his family and millions of well-wishers."

Akshay Kumar, who worked with Dharmendra in the 1995 film Maidan-E-Jung, shared: "Growing up, Dharmendra ji was the hero every boy wanted to be... the industry's original He-Man. Thank you for inspiring generations."

Amid all the concern about his health, the makers of Ikkis on Monday shared the character poster of Dharmendra from the film, calling him a "timeless legend".

Designer Manish Malhotra reminisced about meeting Dharmendra on the sets of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, calling him warm, loving, and endlessly charismatic.

Kareena Kapoor Khan paid tribute by sharing rare throwback photos of Dharmendra with her grandfather Raj Kapoor. She captioned the images: "Forever in power."

Dharmendra will be seen posthumously in Sriram Raghavan's upcoming film Ikkis.

The actor essays the role of M L Khetarpal in Sriram Raghavan's directorial, which is set to release in theatres on December 25.

The film features Agastya Nanda in the role of Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra.

Production banner Maddock Films uploaded the poster of the actor on the official X handle. "Fathers raise sons. Legends raise nations. Dharmendra ji, an emotional powerhouse as the father of a 21-year-old immortal soldier. Dharmendra, 89, was recently discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital last week and has been recuperating at home.

News of Dharmendra's death comes just two weeks after Hema Malini's husband was brought back home from the hospital, where he had been admitted after complaining of breathlessness.
