David Dhawan is all set for the release of his directorial – 'Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai'. Starring his son, Varun Dhawan, in the lead role, the film has Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the main roles. This marks the reunion of the Dhawan father-son after a long time. However, this might be the last time they work together as well.
Ready for retirement
David Dhawan has hinted at retirement post the film's release. He added that he would rather shut the shop and be known as 'Varun Dhawan's father' after this. "I don't think I should do more. Vo toh chahta hi nahi main kaam bhi karu, health-wise dekh kar. This might be my last film... after this, I'll just be Varun's father," he told ANI.

David went on to praise VD and called him a complete family man. He added how Varun was on his toes when daddy Dhawan had fallen sick. "I was very unwell during the shooting of this film... especially on the fourth day, I had to go to the hospital. Varun took great care of me; he had all the doctors' numbers, stayed in touch with them, and was always there. He's a complete family man," he mentioned.

Dhawans working together
Further talking about working with his son, the ace filmmaker said that just because Varun is his son doesn't mean he would take on just any role that he offers. He added that Varun has been a part of several films and known his trajectory. He also added that the 'Badlapur' actor has all the rights to question his director father if he is not satisfied with something.
"A director always wants a good actor, that's the first priority. Meri uski tuning ho gayi... ye bhi nahi ghar ka bacha hai karega hi... vo bhi question karega hi, haq hai uska... 13–14 filmein kar chuka hai. We get along really well, aur maine kaha jab tak bana raha hu, toh bete ke saath ek-do picture chalti rahe, acha hai."
Release date changed
'Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai' was earlier scheduled for June 5 release but later was announced to be postponed after Yash's 'Toxic' changed its date. "We would like to clarify that our film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, was originally scheduled for release on June 5, a date we had announced several months ago. However, after recent developments and considering the prevailing situation, we felt it would be more appropriate to shift our release," the statement had read.
The film will now release on June 12.
