Varun Dhawan has shut down critics and trolls with his layered and nuanced performance in 'Border 2.' Varun has shed off his lover boy and comedy guy image and immersed himself completely into the character of an army man in the man. From film directors to celebrities and even the audience members have praised VD for his authentic performance.

Amid all this, Varun Dhawan has said how Salman Khan stood by him during the trolling he was facing for the war saga. Many on social media were quick to mock the Dhawan boy's side smile and opined that he wouldn't be able to do justice to such a serious role. During the success press meet, Varun who played the role of Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, recalled Salman's call.

The support during trolling

"I also want to say, when these things were happening, I got a call from Salman bhai at night and he was just laughing. He just told me, 'good things are about to come'. That's all he told me. His advice and belief meant a lot to me. Later, when Border 2 was released and it did so well, again he called me and said he's so happy for all of us. Something he said that stays very close to my heart, it was 2 am and I stood up on my bed after I heard it," the 'Badlapur actor recalled.

The emotional call

Dhawan further went on to add, "He said, 'I am proud of you, beta'.That was a very defining moment for me because he doesn't praise people easily. I am just saying because he didn't need to do that, and his praise gave me a lot of confidence. End of the day, I believed in the film and Lord Krishna, aur jo hai abhi, it's part of history now."

Varun also spoke about his wife Natasha Dalal's reaction to the film. He revealed that his wife insisted him on staying away from the media, from the audience to create an element of mystique before the film hit the theatres. He added that it was the same advice he received from Sunny Deol too.
