Former Dance Moms' coach Abby Lee Miller was sentenced to a year-long imprisonment on Tuesday after she was found guilty of concealing $775,000 in income, which she earned during the 2012-13 period, and smuggling foreign currency to the US shores.

The reality TV star will have to spend one year and a day in prison followed by two years of supervised release. She has also been ordered to pay a fine of $40,000. Miller has 45 days in hand to report to prison.

In June 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to the charge of hiding her income. She was also accused of smuggling $120,000 in Australian currency to the US without declaring the amount to the customs. She has been ordered to forfeit the amount.

During the trial in court on Tuesday, Lee Miller was spotted getting teary-eyed.

According to the reporters (who were present in the courtroom), the dance coach said, "I am very sorry for what I've done. My name has been dragged through the mud."

The founder of Abby Lee Dance Company had earlier told PEOPLE magazine: "I went from being a dance teacher from Pittsburgh who never ran a family business, who never did the books, who never wrote the checks out [because] my dad was there, he had my back.

"When he died, I had these temporary people in there, now we're finding out that money was going right and left — and I didn't know that."

She also expressed her fear of being "physically abused or raped" in prison. "I have to stay busy," she said. "If I thought about it every day, I'd just sit around and cry."

"I made mistakes and I trusted people," she said. "But ultimately I have to take responsibility."

Following Miller's announcement in March this year that she was walking away from the Lifetime reality show, she was replaced with Dancing With the Stars alum Cheryl Burke as Dance Moms coach for Season 7.

It is still not clear whether the Lifetime reality series will get an eighth season.
