Coolpad launched its first affordable selfie smartphone in India this month and is already showing signs of popularity. According to the company, the Mega 2.5D smartphone has already received 5 lakh registrations for its first sale next week.

The budget smartphone is priced at just Rs. 6,999 and combines great design, performance and a good camera for those who cannot afford the pricey camera smartphones, which is likely to be the reason for its fame. Of course, the camera details won't be matched with the high-end rivals, but it mostly serves the purpose.

Coolpad Mega 2.5D will be available exclusively on Amazon India and the first flash sale is set to begin at 2 p.m. on August 24. Registrations for the sale started shortly after the launch and they are likely to close before the sale begins. Interested buyers must register in order to be eligible for the purchase of the budget selfie smartphone.

The purpose of a flash sale is to sell limited number of devices on a first-come first-serve basis. Commenting at the launch of the Mega 2.5D and about the new milestone, Coolpad India CEO, Syed Tajuddin, said the company is confident of selling 50,000 phones during the first flash sale, which confirms that only 50,000 customers will be able to buy the phone no matter how many registrations are recorded on Amazon.in.

"We are humbled by this overwhelming response, crossing the half million registration mark in such a short time. The users have displayed immense faith in Coolpad and we are ready to deliver on their expectations. We thank our fans for helping us cross the half million registrations mark and believe that Coolpad is a force to reckon with and I am sure of Coolpad Mega garnering a favourable response like all its predecessors," Tajuddin said in a statement.

For those who are unaware, Coolpad Mega 2.5D features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with 294ppi and 2.5D curved glass, an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP front snapper with f/2.2 aperture and 83.6-degree field of view along with smart beautification mode.

It is powered by a 2,500mAh battery, a quad-core MediaTek MT6735P, which is paired with 3GB RAM and has 16GB expandable storage. The handset supports dual SIM, 4G LTE and microSD cards for additional storage. Coolpad Mega 2.5D, with its specs and price, competes directly with handsets like Lenovo Vibe K5, Swipe Elite Plus and others. It remains to be seen how popular it gets after the first sale in India.
